Brisbane Alarm Monitoring & Security Services (BAMSS) was engaged to design, install and commission the integrated electronic security systems for the new $29.9 million Caloundra Emergency Services Precinct in the rapidly growing Aura community on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. The precinct brings together the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) and Queensland Police Service within one purpose-built emergency services hub, improving emergency response capability across Caloundra West and the surrounding region. Delivered concurrently as a single project, BAMSS was responsible for providing the electronic security systems for both the QAS and QFES facilities. Each department has stringent government design standards and complex integration requirements, demanding a high level of technical expertise, precision and coordination throughout the project.
The Challenge
Emergency service facilities operate around the clock and require security systems that are dependable, intuitive and capable of supporting critical operations without compromising response times.
The QAS facility was designed to accommodate up to 16 paramedics and includes a 10-bay ambulance plant room, equipment recharge areas, clinical write-up spaces, staff amenities and secure drug storage. The neighbouring QFES station includes facilities for up to 50 firefighters, a permanent roster of 16 firefighters operating 24 hours a day, a training tower, turnout room and gymnasium.
For both facilities, the electronic security systems needed to protect people, equipment and critical assets while integrating seamlessly with operational workflows.
BAMSS Solution
Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS)
- BAMSS delivered a fully integrated security solution incorporating:
- Inner Range enterprise access control system managing 15 secure doors
- Integration with controlled drug safes, providing a fully auditable record of staff access and medication dispensing
- 20 high-resolution day/night CCTV cameras
- Integrated intercom system
- Public Address system
- Multiple high-level and low-level system integrations providing a single coordinated security platform
The integrated solution enhances security while supporting compliance with Queensland Health requirements for controlled drug management and staff accountability.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES)
For the adjoining fire station, BAMSS delivered:
- Inner Range access control system securing the administration building and operational vehicle gates
- Integration between the access control and intercom systems
- Hanwha CCTV system comprising 11 high-resolution surveillance cameras
- Public Address system integrated into the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services’ wider communications network
- Dedicated onsite management software enabling local administration of all security systems
The solution provides secure access while ensuring emergency response operations remain fast, efficient and uninterrupted.
The Outcome
The Caloundra Emergency Services Precinct now operates with fully integrated, enterprise-grade electronic security systems that support the operational requirements of two of Queensland’s most critical emergency service agencies.
