More Than Security: Building Safety into the SunnyKids House
A home can mean many things: stability, security, opportunity and the chance to look ahead with confidence.
Those were at the heart of the SunnyKids House, a community-led initiative that brought Sunshine Coast businesses, trades, suppliers and supporters together to create lasting change for local children and families.
As a Silver Sponsor, Brisbane Alarm Monitoring Security Services (BAMSS) contributed time, materials and specialist expertise, including the design and installation of a tailored security system for the completed home.
For BAMSS, the project was an opportunity to do more than provide protection. It was a chance to use their skills in support of the community they work in and call home.
A home built for change and lasting purpose
For more than 20 years, SunnyKids has supported Sunshine Coast children and families experiencing domestic and family violence, hardship and other complex challenges.
The SunnyKids House brought local organisations together to build a four-bedroom home in Aura, with businesses collaborating with purpose to contribute products, services and expertise throughout the construction.
The completed home sold at auction for $1.06 million, with proceeds helping fund the SunnyKids Transitional Housing Project. The project will provide six townhouses and wraparound support for families preparing to move from emergency refuge into more stable, independent, long-term accommodation.
It means the impact of the SunnyKids House extends well beyond the property itself. Every contribution made to the build helped increase the support available to people rebuilding their lives.
