PSA: Security Funding Available for Queensland Businesses and Community Groups
Ensuring the safety of staff, customers, and property often poses challenges for many small and family businesses. Break-ins, vandalism and theft cost money, disrupt operations and affect confidence in local business areas. The good news is that several government funding initiatives can help cover the cost of essential security upgrades!
Here’s what you should know.
Secure Communities Partnership Program (Queensland)
This Queensland Government program supports small and family businesses that have been directly impacted by crime. This program offers grants between $5,000 and $20,000 to install safety and security infrastructure. The program improves safety in commercial areas and reduces ongoing economic losses.
What it offers:
- Grants generally range between $5,000 and $20,000 (ex GST)
- Applicants contribute at least 50% of the project cost
Who can apply:
- Small businesses with fewer than 20 employees
- Annual turnover under $10 million
- Businesses that can show they have been affected by crime in the last five years
- Must have an active ABN and be registered for GST
What can be funded:
- CCTV systems
- Alarm systems
- Property defence improvements
- Lightning improvements
- Access control and other security measures that deter crime

Lord Mayor’s Safer Suburbs Grants (Brisbane)
The Lord Mayor’s Safer Suburbs Grants program provides up to $10,000 in funding for incorporated not-for-profit organisations and community groups leasing council facilities to implement security upgrades.
What it offers:
- Grant funding of up to $10,000 (GST exclusive) per project
- Supports security and safety improvements that directly deter crime
- Helps community groups reduce vandalism, theft and anti-social behaviour
- Projects must be completed within 12 months of funding approval
Who can apply:
- Incorporated not-for-profit organisations or sports clubs
- Must lease a facility from Brisbane City Council
- Must be financially viable and have no outstanding debts to Council
- Must hold public liability insurance of at least $20 million
- Must have met all previous Council grant acquittal requirements
- Must consult with a Council officer before applying
What can be funded:
- CCTV cameras (new or upgrades)
- Alarm systems and locks
- Security screens and fencing
- External lighting
- Graffiti prevention and removal measures
- Security patrol services and system maintenance
